Abstract

The information generated in the healthcare field has been one of the key factors in supporting decisionmaking in clinical diagnoses and serving as educational material in laboratory classes. This study aims to understand the contribution of the generative artificial intelligence tool Perplexity AI in the process of developing definitions for conceptual modeling within the domain of liver injuries, in order to identify the appropriate elements in the information synthesized from the prompt that contextualizes the term “hepatocyte.” The research is exploratory in nature, has a qualitative approach, and is based on a brief case study. The investigation showed that the tool can synthesize definitions that provide a first understanding of the term, when guided by the theoretical foundations of knowledge organization and by a methodologically structured prompt. The demonstration revealed that the synthesis presents partial alignment and coherence with the existing literature in the field, as it exposes the elements that constitute a conceptual definition. We conclude that generative artificial intelligence should be integrated as a resource to streamline the process of capturing the domain’s terminological knowledge. Expert validation proved indispensable to ensure that the retrieved concepts kept terminological accuracy and were proper to the context of use, thereby avoiding inconsistent interpretations or conceptual ambiguities.
