Abstract
Nursing professionals who administer infusion therapy require timely access to scientific information, but several factors can obstruct this access to information. The study examines the information needs and information behavior of nursing professionals who administer infusion therapy in Mexico. We carried out a descriptive study with eighty-four attendees of the Noveno Congreso Internacional de Terapia de Infusión (Ninth International Congress of Infusion Therapy), who answered a semi structured questionnaire divided into three sections. Results show that the most frequent information needs are related to pharmacotherapy, diagnosis, and education; that scientific information is consulted mainly on an occasional basis before performing clinical procedures; and that the use of the internet predominates, especially through Google search engine from mobile devices. Moreover, although participants rely more on books and journals, these sources are less used. The main barriers to accessing information are a lack of time, scarcity of materials in Spanish and lack of knowledge of academic search engines. The use of generative artificial intelligence tools reports low usage and trust. Overall, the results show that the information behavior of the subjects studied favors the use of rapidly accessible free sources over specialized ones and highlights the need to strengthen information services in health facilities.
