Abstract
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is altering information seeking in translation (IST), yet this research field remains in its nascent stages. This study provides the first comprehensive mapping of information seeking in translation research to delineate its intellectual structure and identify future priorities. A dual methodology was employed, combining a quantitative bibliometric analysis of 379 publications using CiteSpace with a qualitative scoping review of 71 selected articles. The bibliometric analysis identifies the knowledge structure, key disciplines, major topics and emerging trends in information seeking in translation research. The scoping review synthesizes findings on translators’ information needs, resources consulted, behavioral strategies and cognitive processes, as well as the conceptualization, assessment, and development of information literacy (IL). Findings indicate that AI-driven workflows demand a redefinition of information literacy models and more integrated, adaptive pedagogical approaches. The study provides valuable perspectives for future research and translator education in the context of human-technology collaboration.
