Abstract
This study focuses on the analysis and conservation of the historical document “Registros de Ofícios do Governo da Paraíba ao Congresso, El Rey Príncipe Real e Ministro do Estado”, from 1822, highlighting its importance for memory and cultural identity. Using a qualitative methodology adapted from the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), the research details a conservation intervention in the collection of the Irineu Pinto Library, at the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Paraibano (IHGP) located in the city of João Pessoa - Paraíba, Brazil. Through a precise diagnosis, we identified the damage and defined treatment techniques stressing the importance of preventive conservation and restoration in preserving documents for their future use. The work emphasizes the evolution of preservation practices in Brazil and the need for formal conservation policies. It thus contributes valuable reflections for collection managers and promotes the implementation of appropriate and sustainable technical solutions for bibliographic documentary heritage protection.
