Abstract

This article deals with an analysis of the Lima municipal public libraries based on the application of quality standards prepared by the Biblioteca Nacional del Perú (BNP) in order to have a global vision of the current situation of these institutions. Data were obtained from the Registro Nacional de Municipalidades (RENAMU), part of the Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI) between 2013 and 2018, about the main characteristics such as coverage, area, technological equipment, collection, services, users and personnel, which are used for the application of standards. Results concluded that the coverage in the city of Lima is broad; nevertheless, a deficit is shown as to collections, services, branches, technological equipment, personnel, and each time only a small number of users is attended.
