Abstract

The purpose of the research is to propose a methodological model within the open science framework to develop a research management system known as CRIS or RIM. The hypothesis is that a CRIS is not a single information system, but a multi-platform system composed of different interoperable components that constitute a scientific research management ecosystem. Applying techniques of direct observation and documentary analysis, the proposal is based on the literature review, the results of diagnostic studies and the implementation of an institutional CRIS prototype. As a result, a model composed of six dimensions with different components in technical, administrative, and regulatory aspects is proposed under a systemic and integral approach. For the discussion, different models of CRIS systems development are analyzed: institutional, national and regional variants in global and Iberoamerican contexts. Among the main conclusions, it is highlighted that there are different integration models mainly based on software solutions and that the interoperability of CRIS and the use of international standards are fundamental in achieving visibility and sustainability.
